The Oxygen Facial Technique for Skin Rejuvenation

The Oxygen Facial Technique for Skin Rejuvenation

(HealthNewsDigest.com) - The oxygen machine used by Joanna Vargas Skin Care is new to the industry and advances the oxygen facial technique of years past. Infusing the skin with pure oxygen, green tea, hylaronic acid and Vitamin A, C and E serums hydrate and regenerate new skin cells, as well as promote elastin and collagen production. This, in turn, reduces lines and wrinkles.

It’s a long trip from my first facial about 15 years ago at a well known salon where I was in tears during the extraction process.

After the prepping, there was the cleansing, a wonderfully subtle pumpkin masque exfolliant, oxygenation, extraction, and micro-dermabrasion. Everything was done with care and consideration for my comfort.

For first-time treatment customers, Joanna always does one side of the face and then takes delight in showing the client the difference in the mirror. “It is both exciting for me as an aesthetician as well as for the client,” said Joanna. “Most people had no idea they could get their skin to look so youthful without going under the knife.”

There’s no pushing of products here, not an assembly line feel, for your time is your time and you are left uninterrupted allowing her process and technique to take effect.

There’s quiet meditative classical music playing in the background, all of the procedures, in particular, the extraction which normally can be somewhat painful, was done with a great deal of gentleness. It turns out that Joanna has found a way over the years working with top clients, to utilize soft cotton and a sponge so that we who want to have the best possible facial don’t have to suffer unnecessarily with any pinching or discomfort.

Services offered by Joanna Vargas Skin Care include:

* The Purifying Facial – basic organic facial
* The Oxygen Purifying Facial – basic organic facial plus a rejuvenating oxygen infusion
* The Triple Crown Facial - [our microcurrent facial] lymphatic drainage, muscle toning, skin tightening plus oxygen rejuvenating infusion
* The Tone-Up - lymphatic drainage, muscle toning, skin tightening
* The Two -Tone Body Treatment Plus Oxygen Inhalation

All of the products were wonderfully fragranced, felt wonderful, and were professionally applied with tender loving care. I have to say that my skin felt so soft and smooth that I did not wear make up for the few days that followed.

Skin Care From the Kitchen
By Gina DeMillo Wagner

Forget about spending hundreds of dollars on miracles in a bottle. Instead, use what you have in your kitchen to make therapeutic treatments customized to your skin type and problem areas. “The skin assimilates ingredients better when they are organic and plant and food based,” says Joanna Vargas of Joanna Vargas Skin Care salon in New York City. To maximize the benefit of pure, totally natural ingredients, simply identify your skin type, look in your fridge, and let the healing begin!

NORMAL & DRY SKIN

When sebaceous glands don’t produce enough sebum, an oily substance that protects skin against harsh elements, skin can appear dull and scaly, especially in cold weather. Plus, dry skin is more prone to premature wrinkles and lines, adds Jyl Steinback, a cookbook author and beauty expert in Scottsdale, Arizona, who develops food-based cosmetic recipes. First, hydrate skin from the inside by drinking plenty of water. Then buff away flaky cells with an exfoliating mask, and replenish moisture with a thick, potassium- and fatty-acid-rich blend.
Exfoliating mask

¼ cup almonds, finely chopped

1 tablespoon rolled oats

4 tablespoons soy milk

1 tablespoon mashed avocado

In a bowl, blend ingredients until pasty. If the mixture is too dry, add another tablespoon of soy milk. Spread a thin, even layer over face, rubbing gently in a circular motion, avoiding eyes. Leave on for 20 minutes, and remove with a warm, wet washcloth. Skin should feel fresh and rejuvenated — not abraded.

How often>> Once or twice a week.
Moisturizing mask

½ large ripe banana

2 tablespoons sunflower oil

In a bowl, mash the banana with the oil; blend till smooth. Apply mixture to clean, dry face, avoiding eyes. Leave on for 20 minutes; rinse and pat dry.

How often>> Once a day.

Normal- and dry-skin product pick>> Alba Deep Sea Facial Mask. Contains chamomile and aloe vera to draw out the impurities that build up in your skin’s pores.
Oily skin

Oily skin can be caused by hormonal imbalances, heredity, and the environment in which you live. Left alone, the excess oil can mix with dirt and bacteria to create more serious problems, such as acne. Steinback’s solution: egg whites. Proteins in the whites absorb oil and improve skin’s firmness. If you’re vegan or allergic to eggs, substitute with cucumber purée. Just wash and purée a whole unpeeled cuke; spread evenly over your face. Astringent cucumber is a natural cleanser that helps remove excess oil and leaves skin feeling toned.
Lightweight protein mask

2 egg whites

In a bowl, beat egg whites until frothy. Apply generously to clean, dry skin, concentrating on the oiliest parts of your face, typically the forehead, nose, and chin. Do not rub in. Leave on for 15-20 minutes, and rinse. How often>> Once or twice a week.

Oily-skin product pick>> MyChelle Cranberry Mud Mask. Made with antibacterial totarol — an extract from New Zealand’s totara tree — to reduce acne, and natural bentonite clay to absorb excess oil.
Aging skin

To slow the signs of aging, first give your skin proper attention by using a daily toner. Apple cider vinegar’s acidic and antiseptic properties help generate new cells by promoting circulation in the small capillaries that feed your skin. Alpha-hydroxy acids also help reduce scaliness and dissolve unwanted deposits on the skin’s surface. After toning, apply a fruit-based mask rich in vitamin C, which helps produce collagen to prevent wrinkles and maintain elasticity.
Gentle daily toner

¼ cup apple cider vinegar

½ cup water

In a large bowl, dilute vinegar in water. (For sensitive skin, use one part vinegar to four parts water.) Apply to face with a cotton ball, avoiding eyes. How often>> Daily.
Fruit mask

3 prunes

2 cucumber slices

Pit prunes and mash in a bowl until smooth. Spread over clean, dry skin, avoiding the eyes. Once prune mask is applied, place fresh, cold cucumber slices over your eyes to reduce puffiness and dark circles. Leave mask on for 20 minutes; rinse clean. How often>> Once or twice a week.

Aging-skin product pick>> Aubrey Organics Green Tea & Green Clay Rejuvenating Mask. Exfoliates with clay and fruit acids and invigorates with antioxidants.

PRE-MASK PREP

To prime your face before an at-home treatment, give yourself a simple steam to open and cleanse your pores, allowing them to easily absorb nutrients. Position your face several inches above a pot of boiled water, and drape a towel over your head to help capture and direct the vapor. Steam your face for a few minutes and pat dry.

Modern Bride

Modern Bride magazine highlights all the nuances that a modern bride needs to make her shine on her special day. So it is no surprise that they also included Joanna Vargas’s body treatments, the Tone Up and Full Body Microdermabrasion as a means of achieving beautiful and sexy skin. Jennifer is highlighted in the article as the artisan that transformed the editors skin to a radiant glow.

WHEN I BOOKED MY TONE UP TREATMENT AT JOANNA VARGAS SKIN CARE. I had no idea I’d be hooked up to a machine that would deliver electrical currents to my body. I was a little freaked, but promise of sculpting some of my trouble spots helped me push on. After placing electrodes around my tummy, my aesthetician, Jennifer flipped a switch and left the room. The microcurrents ranged from weak to strong, the strongest causing my abs to contract into a mini-crunch. The next day, my muscles felt a bit sore, but I was very surprised to find that a pair of usually snug pants fit a bit better. According to Joanna, the results are cumulative, so she suggest about four to five treatments for a bride-to-be once a week, starting two months before the big day. Next up was a Full Body Microdermabrasion (a recommended follow-up to the Tone Up). Jennifer started by brushing a hollow, diamond-tipped wand over my entire body. While it exfoliated every inch of my body, the wand (which is more like a hose) simultaneously sucked up dead skin cells. A hot-towel massage followed, and then Jennifer applied a milk, cinnamon and lavender hydrating cream. My skin truly felt like 10 years had been lifted away. I couldn’t wait to go home, slip on a sundress and show it off. Talk about the perfect splurge for a little strapless number and number and a walk down the aisle. -Anita K. According to esthetician Joanna Vargas, owner of Joanna Vargas Skin Care in Manhattan, using skin-care products with soothing properties will also lessen your propensity toward irritation. “Chamomile, calendula, aloe, rose, and argan oil are all great for soothing, hydrating, and feeding the skin with the vital nutrients it needs to be healthy and glowing,” she says. For a quick, skin-soothing treatment, she recommends starting in your kitchen. “Brew some chamomile tea and compress the affected area with tea-soaked cotton squares, once the tea has cooled off. This will eliminate the burning sensation immediately,” she notes. Then, Vargas recommends applying a layer of organic yogurt over the area, letting it sit for 20 minutes, and rinsing it off with the leftovertea. As she so smoothly puts it—”Your skin will be calm and the redness gone!” Read the full article

Celebrity esthetician Joanna Vargas of Joanna Vargas Salon in New York City says she’s noticed the strangest trend: People tend to believe if a product is organic, it won’t be strong enough to make a difference in the skin. “When I opened my salon, so many clients were afraid that if they started to use organic products that their faces would start melting off!” She reminds clients that skin needs vitamins and nutrients to stay looking healthy and keep its elasticity. “Our skin is our protection against the harshness of our polluted environment. Why wouldn’t you want to fortify the body’s defense against contamination?” Joanna points out.
